The second"Global Sustainable Development Communication"Summer Camp kicks off
The curriculum design of this summer camp builds upon Wuhan University's Office of International Exchange's extensive experience in developing international summer programs over the years, featuring a globally diverse faculty team. This includes renowned Chinese scholars such as Professor Ji Li, Associate Professor Guan Tianru, and Distinguished Research Fellow Ke Xiaojun from Wuhan University's School of Journalism and Communication, alongside Professor Yan Yan from Renmin University of China, Professor Kenneth Rogerson from Duke University, Professor John Downey from Loughborough University, and Professor Kalinga Seneviratne from Thailand's Thammasat University. Through specialized lectures, case analyses, and other interactive formats, these experts will guide participants in examining global communication pathways for sustainable development from multidisciplinary perspectives.
In addition to classroom sessions, during the two-week program, students will conduct field research at East Lake, focusing on sustainable development and ecological conservation practices of the Yangtze River. They will visit cultural landmarks including the Hubei Provincial Museum, Wuhan University's Cultural Heritage Research Center, and Ancient Lute Platform to experience the profound historical and cultural heritage of the Yangtze River Basin.A visit to the Hubei International Communication Center will allow students to learn about the filming stories behind "Living by the Yangtze River" and explore innovative approaches for international dissemination of Yangtze culture. The summer camp also includes activities such as a Huangmei Opera lecture and a visit to the Hubei Provincial Art Theater, showcasing the charm of intangible cultural heritage in the Yangtze River Basin.Additionally, students will engage with cutting-edge technological innovation through visits to institutions like Hubei Science and Technology Museum, and VOYAH Automotive Technology Co., Ltd., to personally experience the technological innovation momentum along the Yangtze River.
It is worth mentioning that this summer camp not only emphasizes the integration of theory and practice but also places particular focus on students' cross-cultural experiences. A series of activities aligned with the interests of Generation Z—such as lawn music festivals, dragon boat races, and international cultural theme days—have been organized to build bridges of communication and foster mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and international students. Young scholars from various countries gather here, and through collaborative learning, they will grow into international ambassadors for Yangtze River culture.

"Professor Ji Li, the camp director, stated: 'Effectively communicating Yangtze River culture internationally means telling the natural and social stories of the Yangtze River basin that demonstrate the beauty of harmony with nature while encouraging mutual learning amongst cultures.' Sharing these experiences can foster community between Chinese and world civilizations and, like tributaries forming a great river, foster a shared harmonious future for mankind."

With the official launch of the summer camp, an exploration journey into the international communication of sustainable development of Yangtze River culture has fully commenced. It is believed that in the days ahead, students will gather in Wuhan—a city where history and modernity intersect—to acquire knowledge, broaden their horizons, and contribute wisdom and strength to the international communication of Yangtze River culture.

It is understood that as a key component of Wuhan University International Summer School, this summer camp is being held for the second time. Last year, 22 international students from six countries—Vietnam, Laos, Uzbekistan, Fiji, Sri Lanka, and the United States—joined over 20 Wuhan University undergraduates in participating in the inaugural 'Global Communication and Sustainable Development Summer Camp.' The event received coverage from multiple media outlets including CGTN, Beijing Review, Hubei TV, and Wuhan TV, showcasing the positive contributions of youth in advancing the world's sustainable development goals.
